This Is Not a Government Office. We run a private reference site. We cannot pull official documents, file paperwork, or issue certified copies for anyone. For any of those, you need to reach the right government office directly.
Need an Official Bristol County Document?
Bristol County does not have a single county clerk. Records are split across the Massachusetts Trial Court departments and several other offices. Here's where to look for the records most people ask about:
- Felony or major civil case files: the Bristol County Clerk of Courts at the Superior Court, 9 Court St., Taunton, MA 02780, (508) 823-6588.
- District Court records: the Clerk-Magistrate's Office for the right city - Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, or Taunton (see the clerk page for each office).
- Marriage and divorce records: marriage and divorce records (marriage licenses come from the city or town clerk; divorce is in Probate and Family Court).
- Probate, wills, and estates: probate records. Bristol Probate and Family Court Register: Taunton (508) 977-6040; Fall River (508) 672-1751; New Bedford (508) 999-5249.
- Criminal and arrest records: arrest records.
- Jail custody: inmate records. Bristol County Sheriff's Office switchboard: (508) 995-6400.
- Active warrants: warrant records.
- Land records: Registry of Deeds (see public records).
- Other agency or town records: file a Public Records Law request - see public records.
